We’ve had pretty decent coverage of the Robocoin ATM lately. It’s that ATM that converts Bitcoins to cash and cash to Bitcoin. In its first day of use, the machine saw 81 — or $10,000 worth — of transactions.
Now we’re learning (via Finextra) that the first person in line to use the ATM in downtown Vancouver is HSBC premium banker Jason Lamarche. Lamarche is reported to have waiting somewhere on the order of three hours to use the ATM, and when his opportunity came, he exchanged a $20 note for its value in Bitcoin.
The experience? “It was amazing,” he says. “It was super convenient. It was easy to use.” (via Wired)
It’s interesting to see today’s bankers find interest in Bitcoin mostly because many have seemed dismissive in the past. In somewhat related news recently, one of Fortress Investment Group’s fund managers gave Bitcoin an endorsement of sorts, signaling Bitcoins ever-increasing awareness in the traditional financial community.
